Introduction

Evil Twin is not a particular brewery, but a set of ideas that works from five different locations across the globe. Founded by Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø in 2010, the company itself has been a nomad, moving where the winds of beer take them. After a few years of tumble-weed living, Jeppe moved his family to New York City permanently, and Evil Twin NYC began. Evil Twin is still dedicated to collaboration with brewers across the globe, and gives many nomadic craft brewers a home base when a project needs to be put on its feet. Now the experimentation with recipes and brewing techniques has gone to a whole new level. It also means that getting your hands on Evil Twin beer is a lot easier. Dozens of styles and flavours are available year-round. The Low Life is a German-style Pilsner with a tight rein on the hop profile, giving it a lean, sharp flavour perfectly demonstrating the style. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar up to six months.

How it looks

Pours a bright, yellow sunny colour with a clear body and light carbonation. A pillowy, frothy head out of the can hangs around, leaving sticky lacing as it settles.

How it smells

A very subtle aroma to this beer, you’ll get the malt qualities with a good sniff but there’s little else to tell the story. A bit of musty yeast and citrus zest are hiding way in the background.

How it tastes

A lot more going on in the flavour than the nose was suggesting - there’s a lot of lemon flesh and zest, toasted grain and biscuit elements, and the hops open up on the tongue showing a leafy, green quality like you’ve just shoved a handful of green Ash leaves into your mouth. It all fades off pretty quickly, leaving behind a mostly bitter, earthy taste in the mouth, and a dry, almost cutting quality. This is a speedy flavour that you have to catch or sip a few times to get a hold on.

Recommended food pairing

As a solid pub beer, any pub food would go well with it, but we can never go wrong recommending a juicy burger.
