Introduction

Theoretically Brewing is a long saga, beginning with two pals brewing beer in their garage, and leading to the creation of a microbrewery in Lethbridge years later. Kris Fischer and Kelti Baird are obsessed with creating small, unique brews that rely on flavour experimentation and a sturdy palate for guidance. The pair are keen to have their community guide them and with the help of their neighbours and fellow Lethbridge folk, they created a community patio where great beer meets artistry, music, and great people. The brewing is theoretical - the commitment to a vibrant, living culture is entirely practical. The Curiosity Amber Ale is built to capture the sensation of an English pub and put you at ease with every sip of the pint. Since it’s also unfiltered and unpasteurized, it also puts no roadblocks between your palate and the beer. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed fairly soon.

How it looks

Pours a golden honey colour with a slightly murky body and very low carbonation. Almost no head to speak out once it’s in the glass.

How it smells

An odd combination of toasted biscuit malt and a smokey quality like a long burning bbq full of charcoal. There’s very little else to pull out of the aroma once the smoke gets in your nostrils.

How it tastes

The combination of sweet malt and smoky flavour from the nose plays out exactly the same in the flavour. Warming up on the tongue only serves to accentuate the smokiness. This beer is definitely in the wheel-house of those who enjoy peaty/smoky whiskeys and classic barbecue. The taste is also lightning fast, making it tricky to pull out much else. Serve it slightly warm to get the most out of it.

Recommended food pairing

Pair it up with a pan-seared rib-eye basted in butter and teamed up with grilled asparagus.
