Introduction

42 North Brewing was started by an intrepid group of craft beer enthusiasts who connected with the rich history of New York State and the bounty of American hops that grew along the 42 parallel. That history includes Spanish royalty negotiating with the fledgling United States, and territorial skirmishes with Canada. It also includes some of the first hop-growing in the U.S., including the disease-resistant and well-known variety: Cascade hops. All these pieces of history are part of the gravity that 42 North puts into their brewing. In their 8 years brewing craft beer they’ve managed to put out more than 220 beers, and have begun to spread their wings across North America. The Borderland IPA delivers on the juicy tropical hop profile of the American IPA but gifts your tongue with hops that open up and take you for a ride. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed right away for optimal flavour.

How it looks

Pours a darker, apricot juice colour with occluded body and light carbonation. Only the barest ring of foam around the top - not a typical looking IPA.

How it smells

Strong malty aroma, a medley of tropical fruits that includes pineapple and mango, and a big whiff of hops that fills the nostrils with resinous pine aroma.

How it tastes

This is a by the book IPA flavour delivery, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Doing it well is its own reward - juicy tropical fruit, herbal and greenish hop profile that twists the mouth a touch. A clean, semi-smooth mouthfeel and light body. Overall this is a crisp IPA that showcases the hop profile well, the only downside is that it may feel like you’ve had this beer a hundred times before. Make sure it's cold, and enjoy the consistency.

Recommended food pairing

This is a straight-arrow IPA, so get creative with your spices and selections. Track down some spicy Murgh Kari and light your hair on fire, with this IPA to put it out.
