An unlikely pair of brewing enthusiasts came together to form Lupulin Brewing. Co-founder Matt, was still playing with Tonka toys when Jeff was finishing his undergrad in chemistry from the University of Minnesota. So it can be viewed as destiny when they came together and formed Lupulin. A family run brewery that pushed through the fiery crucible of the garage brewing era and came out on the other side as a popular source of tasty craft beer. Now rocking six year-round beers on the slate and supporting seasonal/limited series beers, Lupulin is a force. They’ve ramped up to dozens of staff supporting the brewing or pulling pints in their taproom, and their beers have made it up to the frozen North. The Hooey is a big, bold, juicy IPA chalk full of hops (they even left some at the bottom of the can for you!) with a smooth base. Serves well at 8°C and should be enjoyed promptly.
Pours a light orange colour with a totally occluded body and medium carbonation. A solid half-inch of bone-white, super-bubbly foam head on top.
A big wallop of citrus but muddled up and tough to nail down precisely what fruit is filling the nose. Fresh, bright aroma from the hops, leaning toward an herbal and floral quality.
For such a big aroma, the flavour is laid back and demands you chase it. Up front is the slightly bitter and fruity play of the hops, but as it warms on the tongue the herbal quality brightens up. The fruit is sweet, but tame and never comes on any stronger. A slightly astringent mouthfeel with a long, drawn out finish that ends on a slightly zesty note of grapefruit.
A big, juicy IPA with plenty of hops - make your spice rack come alive. Aim for sweet chili and lean protein to complement this brew.
