Introduction

Travois Ale Works is fast approaching five years making craft beer, and a reputation has travelled far and wide from their brewery in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Built in a restored boot repair factory, Travois’ choice of location follows with its founder's desire to continually improve their product and their community. A half-dozen beers grace the slate of Travois year-round: Scottish Export, Irish Stout, IPA, Guava Lime Blonde, Ginger Mead, and the German Pils. Travois has dedicated their beer efforts to classic European styles with the North American touch. The result is trusty styles that have big flavour and represent the best characteristics. The taproom has all of these available for a fresh pint, and they can all be had in a six when you land on your favourite that you need to take home. The German Pils delivers on the style’s best traits: clean, crisp, and refreshing. With a touch of tangerine notes from the German Saphir hops, this is a Pils that thrills. Serves well at 6°C and can stand a year in the cooler.

How it looks

Pours a pale, golden colour with a clear body and light carbonation. A bubbly head roars out of the can but quickly recedes to nothing more than a ring around the glass.

How it smells

A zesty combination of sweet malt and the tangerines so prominently mentioned. There’s a slightly bitter, citrus zest aroma around the edges and a biscuit aroma underneath it all.

How it tastes

The flavour changes gear quickly on this beer - first blush is sweet malt and fruit, but the sweetness is almost immediately balanced by a slightly bitter zest and a minerality that gives it warmth. The taste experience is lightning fast, and the aftermath is a smooth mouthfeel with a slightly salty finish. But it leaves a doughy aroma in the nose.
