Introduction

Wade Brown trekked long and hard along the skein of the Rockies, from his childhood haunts in Colorado up to the mean craft-beer streets of Calgary, Alberta. One idea grew inside him as he made the journey: great beer inspired by life outdoors along the Rocky Mountains. It's been five years of Born Colorado Brewing putting out unique and eye-catching beer in Calgary. With a taproom admired by beer drinkers of all types, armed with an array of fine taps and tasty snacks, BCB has made a meal of becoming popular in a city that has craft breweries popping up like dandelions. A top 10 is available to be pulled when you sit yourself down in front of the lumber, and the crew is happy to fill a growler so you can enjoy the best while hunkered down in your favourite spot. BCB presents the Arm Candy Milk Stout - a variant of stout with round, chocolatey flavour, like a hug from a marshmallow. Serves well at 8°C and can hang out in the beer fridge for up to six months.


How it looks

Pours like printer’s ink, medium carbonation and opaque body, with a bubbly, pillowy head leaving little to no lacing on the glass.

How it smells

Quite a strong aroma of bitter chocolate, like dusty a baker’s bar in the back of your grandma’s cupboard. Brewed, then dried coffee grounds, medium roast, mix with a damp earth aroma and cut tuber starchiness.

How it tastes

The typical coffee and chocolate notes of a stout are smoothed out in the mouthfeel and made more interesting by a blackened, sugary flavour. There’s a slightly more aged taste to the coffee and the same dusty baker’s chocolate. Some molasses and toasted white bread, all capped off with a root and earth hop flavour. Finishes slowly and smoothly.

Recommended food pairing

Big and chocolatey, but slightly bitter as well, this would go well with a dessert that matches with iced coffee - a cinnamon coffee cake or vanilla pound cake.
