Introduction

A well-known favourite that’s crossed the threshold of Craft Club before and returns in style. Anderson Valley Brewing is one of California’s oldest craft breweries, running since the 80’s and always keeping their backyard in check. AV believes in making their brewing as environmentally sustainable as possible, relying on solar power, old school hand brewing techniques and beer empowering recycling. Buying up Wild Turkey barrels to age their beer in and give their beers flavour and character unparalleled in the craft game. Anderson Valley Brewing puts out dozens of unique brews, including specialty seasonals. The Framboise Rose is AV’s shot at the lesser known Leipzige Gose style of beer. High in yeast and hops with floral and herbal character, this gose gets a boost from raspberry puree added during the final stages. Serves well at 8°C and can cellar for a few months.


How it looks

Pours a toasted amber wheat colour with a hint of reddish tinge and clear body. The head is almost nonexistent and carbonation is quite mild.

How it smells

The raspberry puree added to this beer is the first and most compelling scent, strong enough to almost entirely mask the woody undertone and almost no trace of the malt comes through in the nose.

How it tastes

Very tart opening flavour, driving the fresh raspberry concept in with a hammer. Some salty character along with the vanilla hint of oak and some of the floral tone of the rose hip mentioned by the brewer. Overall this beer is nearly entirely dominated by the raspberry characteristics, making it a welcome addition for those who enjoy fruit infusion. The tartness leads to a lip smacking, dry finish which makes it ideal for a hot summer’s day.

Recommended food pairing

The raspberry is strong with this one, get into a solid complement for the berry by hooking up with sizzling ginger chicken.
