Along the long and lonesome highway 17 spans the 4th Meridian of our fair Dominion. And from that a few good brewers have taken their name. 4th Meridian Brewing Company resides in Lloydminister, Alberta, offering up a select set of microbrewed beers and herein they deliver the Bachelor Blonde Ale — a lightly hopped classic American style ale. Laid back in taste with a slightly sweet finish (and some saucy yeast character). The brewing company sits on the dividing line between Alberta and Saskatchewan, ready to serve up frosty brews for weary travelers and now sends their bounty out beyond the confines of the border town. American blonde is an easy drinking beer with a well-rounded flavour profile, not aiming for too hoppy or malty but just right. This beer serves well at the 8°C mark and should be enjoyed within the normal bounds of a six-pack.
Pours a golden yellow colour with a hazy body and a finger of white head that foams up quickly and recedes to a pencil thin layer on top.
First impression is of a doughy and cereal malt along with floral, earthy hops. A touch of tingly yeasty scent will get your nose itching.
The character of the malt comes on strong with this beer, delivering the doughy and sweeter cereal tone early. It has some lingering power from the yeast and delivers a bit of an electric zap to the palate, acidic like but without the usual sourness that can bring. It has a dry finish and rougher mouth feel, ending with an astringent tartness reminiscent of a green apple freshly chomped off a tree branch.
The American Blonde ale is the classic pub style and as such is ready for any pub feasting: get some wings, tapas or the ultimate classic pub food: the burger. Just make sure there’s bacon on it.
