Introduction

St. Feullien (Foo-yen) is a traditional Belgian brewery, which started brewing in 1125 CE with monks brewing beer for the local town of Le Rouelx. Falling into disrepair after being condemned by soldiers of the French Revolution in 1796, it was closed for 77 long years before Stéphanie Friart bought it out and started brewing. Now, 145 years later, the fifth generation of Stéphanie's family runs all operations, and maintains two prestigious memberships within the Belgian Family Brewers association, and the Certified Belgian Abbey Beer association. Celebrating the 49th anniversary of brewing Cuvée de Noël, Brasserie St. Feuillien is excited to share their holiday treat with you! This beer is considered the best brew of each year, and is directly made by the Master Brewer for your enjoyment. Designed to battle the winter cold, it's strong, dark and full bodied! Savour at 12 C.

How it looks

A dark ruby beer borders on a brown in the depth of the glass. Lots of dense, tiny foam that laces the glass as you sip.

How it smells

We immediately smell fennel seeds, caraway, and baking spice. Then, the strong dark molasses, sweet cherries, and Christmas pudding start to show through. At the end, we find light orange peel, dates and a lovely caramel ribbon of sweetness!

How it tastes

The body is a medium weight, and very foamy! Orange peel, clove, nutmeg and vanilla with a light star anise note plays with an intense dried prunes and figs presence. The molasses on the nose combines with the caramel and brown sugar flavours to create a delightful gingerbread flavour! The finish comes across like a traditional German digestif, kräuterlikör, a dark, thick, and herbal liqueur taste. With all of the comforts of holiday home cooking, this beer is a festive treat!

Recommended food pairing

Nibble on some gorgonzola morsels to balance the rich sweet bread treats the beer puts onto your palate. Love sweetness? Add a traditional fruitcake to mingle with the sweetness in the dried fruit flavours!
