Introduction

Rough Draft Brewing Co. started with a home brewing kit gifted to owner Jeff Silver that grew into a real passion for making great beer. Twenty years of home-brewing experience and test after test of beer recipes led Jeff to jumped into the incredible craft beer scene in San Diego and open a full-blown brewery. The name Rough Draft is to signify exactly what Silver's beer are: rough drafts. This brewery suggests that their beers are always rough drafts and they encourage, and want, the drinkers of their craft to weigh in and provide their feedback so they can continuously make their beer better. This Grapefruit Weekday IPA is made with fresh, local organic grapefruit from Stehly Farms. They juice and zest the fruit by hand for a delicious twist on their award winning Session IPA.

How it looks

Grapefruit Weekday IPA pour a perfectly clear golden with a medium head of start white colour that dissipates fairly quickly leaving some light lacing.

How it smells

On the nose, this beer is all grapefruit juice on the front with some tropical fruit coming through and some slight grainy notes.

How it tastes

Taste-wise, this 4.8% IPA is light and full of fresh, vibrant grapefruit. We tasted zesty ruby red grapefruit juice up front with some tropical fruit and some mild malty sweetness through the middle followed by mild citric hop bitterness. On the finish, there is significantly more pith flavour than we detected on the nose. This light to medium-body beer has a quick finish with no lingering bitterness.

Recommended food pairing

We would pair this beer ceviche or grilled fish or spicy food of any kind. The citrus flavours would enhance the citrus in ceviche, provide a nice flavour amplifying for the grilled fish and would cut the heat in spicy food.
