A former flower farm in British Columbia’s Sunset Coast is home to Persephone Brewing. Following their guiding principle of “farm to table AND farm to barrel”, this 11-acre farm grows three different varietals of hops – Cascade, Centennial and Goldings – along with a number of fruits and vegetables used in the food served on site. Filmed in the same town, this brewery borrowed some history from the ‘80s television hit, Beachcombers, naming themselves after the famous tugboat in the series. The team at Persephone is big on community partnerships, sustainability and development of their local economy.
A clear, amber-copper colour with a generous, nice head that leaves moderate lacing.
The nose offers up big aromas of citrus, pine and caramel and a hint of floral hops.
This medium-bodied beer offers up flavours to match its aromas delivering a big kick of citrus on the front, including juicy grapefruit and orange rind before moving into some pine and offering some light, bready-malt flavours. This beer finishes dry with lingering flavours of pine and citrus. A strong offering from a Canadian brewery that’s getting some good buzz.
This is a food friendly beer that will pair well with almost anything. As the weather starts to warm up, try this alongside some juicy burgers and spicy sausages in the backyard with friends or as a pair to some good old fashioned fried chicken.
