Introduction

Major thanks to our friends at The Dandy Brewing Company for providing a beer rarely seen outside of Calgary to all of our club members across Canada! Although no oysters make it into the ale, this sweet stout is the perfect companion to the tasty bivalves and other salty snacks. A smooth body highlighted with chocolate and dark roasted malts is easy to enjoy on the blusteriest of winter days, or the sunniest summer afternoons. Dandy in the Underworld was one of the first offerings from The Dandy Brewing Company, Calgary’s first nano-brewery. A living beer, this ale continues to ferment in the bottle until you pop it open. This means that each bottle will have a uniquely evolving flavour as natural carbonation occurs.

How it looks

Dark brown-black with two fingers of quick-breaking light-brown head.

How it smells

This beer smells of cocoa powder, coffee beans and earthy hops.

How it tastes

On first sip, we tasted coffee and baker’s chocolate with a hint of wood char. Bottle fermentation results in low carbonation and contributes to a smooth, creamy mouth-feel that finishes dry with flavours of cocoa powder. This stout bucks the trend of big imperial and barrel-aged styles and opts instead for a lighter body

Recommended food pairing

Oysters. Or any salty snack.
