Believer was Ninkasi’s very first Fall/Winter seasonal before it became a member of their flagship offerings. It had a great run, but was retired two years ago. Ninkasi has a program called 'Beer Is Love', which helps others by using beer as the liquid that brings people together. The program donates to registered non-profit organizations in support of those doing work in five categories: women, equality, recreation, the environment and arts and music. Program manager Emilie Hartvig suggested that Believer make a comeback this year, with a large campaign goal of donating $50,000 to three non-profits through a social media voting competition. For every case of Believer sold, Ninkasi is donating $1, and $7 for every keg. At the halfway point of the campaign, they are on target to make a significant impact on the non-profit organizations they have partnered with.
Rich amber colouring around the edges, with a deeper core of mahogany. Moderate, tan coloured head that creamy and quick to dissipate. Light lacing remains
Tropical fruits are balanced with strong malt flavour, the combination reminds us of pineapple upside-down cake! Caramel, baked pineapple and pear. The toasty-roasty aromas are light and fall in line behind the caramel and fruits.
Exotic fruit profile is upfront with green mango and papaya, as we loose the richness of baked pineapple. Secondary, there is strong walnut, biscuit, and molasses. The mid-palate showcases some bright zesty flavours, like lime rind. The finish brings on well integrated hoppiness and balanced bitterness.
Ninkasi Brewing offers several pairing suggestions, from the strong vegetal flavours of brussle sprouts to poached pear salad. The savory béchamel cheese sauce really got our taste buds dreaming!
