Introduction

Sonoma County in California is world-renowned for its wines. In 1995, Bear Republic opened its doors and proved the region can also produce tremendous craft beer. By 2006, the family-owned brewpub had grown so much they opened a second Sanoma brewery. Heavy hops is their trademark, and this bottle-conditioned ale is one fine example of that.

How it looks

A golden colour with a slight haze - and a solid white head with great retention.

How it smells

Malted grains upfront, grapefruit and orange peel shine through the middle and earthy, piney hops coming in right behind.

How it tastes

Juicy and hoppy to start, with lots of ripe citrus flavours of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, and a hint of pineapple - all combined with earthy hop notes of pine resin and grass. A medium-bodied beer with a juicy and somewhat oily mouthfeel that finishes dry. A great West Coast IPA with lots of citrus and pine.

Recommended food pairing

Pair this IPA with spicy Thai chicken or Louisiana-style gumbo. The citrus kick and the bitter hops combat the spice while pulling out the subtle flavours.
