Established in 1823 by Kiuchi Gihei, the Kiuchi Brewery is widely known for brewing Hitachino Nest Beer. As headman of the Kõunosu village, Kiuchi and hisfamily were responsible for collecting rice from farmers for land taxes. By making use of the remaining rice stocks in the warehouse, the idea for a brewery began. In 1996, after decades of brewing sake, the production of beer was founded. They have since made a name for themselves, winning numerous awards worldwide.
A light golden ale with thick white rocky head.
A nose of citrus, white pepper, coriander and orange with a hint of banana.
Flavours of orange progress to coriander and nutmeg notes, with a bold bread yeast middle and some good spice. A medium carbonation and light body with a spicy finish. An excellent witbier that is ultra refreshing while finishing dry and smooth.
While it seems too obvious, this beer is phenomenal with sushi. The delicate flavours of sashimi are showcased brilliantly alongside this citrusy, light and spicy ale.
